We will meet in Oriente Train Station in Lisbon, and from there we will travel together to the field study centre by coach.
There are several options to get to Lisbon. If you choose to fly, there are several direct flights from many UK airports to Lisbon. A return flight from London to Lisbon costs around £120 as its cheapest through to ~£300 as its most expensive. Another option is to travel by train from London to Lisbon for about £250, or by coach for ~€150.
Accommodation in Lisbon
Being a capital, Lisbon offers plenty of options. Many buildings have been refurbished to serve as accommodation for tourists on Airbnb, which has resulted in unbearable rents for Portuguese standards. Hotels and guesthouses have therefore less of an impact on the local housing market. You may wish to keep that in mind when looking for accommodation before or after the trip.
Getting around Lisbon
Public transport is good. To ride the metro, tram, buses and trains you will need a reusable Viva Viagem ticket. These can be purchased and loaded on the ticket vending machines and ticket offices present at the stations. The card costs €0.50 and a one-way ticket is €1.50.
Metro runs from 6am until 1am daily and there are 4 different lines. The Red line connects the airport (Aeroporto) to Oriente train station.
Taxis are known for scams, specially for tourists in airport trips. So be aware you may get overcharged and consider using the Metro instead.
